Ingredients: organic and Fair Trade Certified Indian black tea

Origin: Assam, India

Assam is a state in northeastern India, and most of the tea that is produced there is near or at sea level. Known for production of tea and silk, most of its agriculture depends on the heavy monsoon rains and high humidity that create almost a greenhouse-like effect on the region. Production and cultivation of tea in Assam has been happening since the mid-1800s. Our Assam teas are sourced from several different Fair Trade and organic estates. Depending on availability and quality, we select our teas from the Banaspati Estate, Hathikuli Estate, Sewpur Estate, Tonganagoan Estate, and the Jalinga Estate.

Steeping Instructions

At Arbor Teas, we believe tea should be brewed to suit your personal taste. We’re happy to make recommendations to get you started, but don’t hesitate to experiment! When brewing your tea, your main considerations are tea quantity, water temperature, and steeping time. We recommend black teas to be steeped for 3 to 5 minutes in water heated to a full, rolling boil. For the best flavor, use fresh water whenever possible, and avoid overboiling. Try not to steep your tea longer than necessary, as you’ll extract undesirable bitterness from the leaves. If you want a stronger brew, don’t steep longer, just use more tea. And remember to re-steep your tea leaves to get the most out of your leaf!

Health Benefits

tea-health-2.jpg

Like all true tea, black tea offers many potential health benefits. Research has found that tea (Camellia sinensis) can have many positive effects on human health, including improved cardiovascular function, cancer risk reduction, improved immune function, improved oral health, and help with weight management. Tea is also full of polyphenols, which are a class of antioxidant that help your body maintain homeostasis and balance your stress levels. Black tea specifically has been found to regulate blood sugar in diabetics better than other types of tea, according to a study done by the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

    Classic taste, no bold flavors

Posted by Karla on 26th Dec 2024

Pretty similar to Arbor Tea's Irish Breakfast Black but with less of a dessert/sugar taste. No particularly bold notes. I think any black tea enjoyer would like this. I enjoy with honey, or a couple pinches of brown sugar and a splash of almond milk.

    Assam

Lots of fancy descriptions for this tea but my take on it is... it's very astringent and a bit smoky. I feel very refreshed and cleansed after a cup.

Notes of pepsi and date. Best work focus tea energy

Posted by Benjamin Carnes on 26th Jun 2024

I found this tea has an excellent sweetness that lingers in my mouth all day. Its a sweetness that reminds me of pepsi, stevia, and date. However, the bitterness can be a bit bad like charcoal if not brewed right. I found I can consistently yield a pleasant sweetness if I use slightly cooler water. The consistent brainwork focus tea energy has won me over for my daily tea drinking. I also like that the caffeine consistently leaves my system by bedtime and I sleep superbly, maybe with some lingering theanine.

Sometimes tastes sweet and sometimes like charcoal

Posted by Benjamin Carnes on 12th Jun 2024

Sometimes this tea has an exceptionally good sweetness that reminds me of stevia, Pepsi, and maple syrup. The sweetness develops after sipping it for a couple minutes and lingers for hours after I finish the tea. However, sometimes it lacks sweetness and leaves me with a charcoal taste all day. I experimented and found out that the sweetness only happens if I have eaten banana earlier in the day (maybe its the enzymes?). The sweetness is so good I'll probably buy this again, if it weren't for so many other teas I want to try. Also, this tea has a nice body feel. Gives me good focus for work all day and leaves my system by bed time.

    A decent, fair value Assam

Posted by William Lytch on 4th May 2024

This tea brewed for 4 minutes (no sugar, no milk) impresses with a certain uniqueness in that it has one of the lowest amounts of tannic acid I've tasted in an Assam. The advertised "occasional golden downy tips" decided to avoid this occasion apparently because I see zero of those, it's all black leaf. Very little malt taste compared to the best single estate Assams, copper notes are quite apparent. This is an easy drinking Assam but definitely has a less complex flavor profile compared to more expensive single estate Assams.
