Masala Chai Spiced Compote Recipe
The addition of Masala Chai Black Tea to a simple fruit compote brings it to a whole new level! Plus, your home will smell incredible as the dried fruits simmer in the aromatic tea. Serve this delicious compote over Greek yogurt, on a stack of pancakes, or stirred into oatmeal for a fruity, sweet, and spicy brunch or breakfast treat.
Makes 4 - 6 servings
Ingredients
- 4 tsps Organic Masala Chai Black Tea (1 sample package is more than enough)
- 3 Tbsp honey
- 1/2 cup dried apricots
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 cup pitted prunes
- 6 oz semi sweet chocolate bar or chips (we used chocolate chunks)
- Greek yogurt (if desired)
Directions
- Bring 1 3/4 cups water to a boil in a 2-quart saucepan. Turn off the heat, add the masala chai and let steep for 5 minutes.
- While the masala chai is steeping, chop the dried fruits into smaller pieces. Set aside.
- Strain the steeped masala chai into a container with a pour spout. Using the back of a spoon, press out as much liquid as possible from the steeped masala chai tea leaves.
- Wipe out the medium saucepan, pour in the strained masala chai tea.
- Add the honey and chopped dried fruits to the saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the liquid thickens (approximately 20 minutes).
- If you prefer your fruit pieces a little smaller, lightly pulse (approx 5 times) an immersion blender in the compote in the saucepan.
- Let cool, then transfer the Masala Chai-Spiced Compote into a covered container and chill for at least 4 hours before serving.
